The weather is chilling here in Maine. We’re only a few days away from getting snow. At least where I live here in Portland. Up until now, it’s been quite cold, windy, and rainy. Not the best weather for adventure, which is what my husband and I normally do on our off days together. It is certainly great blogging weather though, so I am not complaining.
With this weather, not only have I been trying to keep warm by breaking out my coziest sweaters, but by making the yummiest drinks at home to enjoy in said sweaters. No pants of course. *smirk face emoji*. What kind of person would I be if I wasn’t to share with you all the most delicious of them all. My Turmeric Hot Chocolate. Before I paste the recipe & directions below, I wanted to take some time to insert some knowledge on what Turmeric is, and the health benefits, if you don’t already know.
Turmeric has been used in cooking for centuries, and has been used in various studies around the world to inform us all of its evergrowing health benefits. The most common fact about Turmeric is that it has anti inflammatory benefits, which acts as an antioxidant. Other facts that may not be as well known, is that the main ingredient in Turmeric is Curcumin, which is difficult to absorb in our bloodstream. Adding a dash of pepper to anything Turmeric, can increase the absorption by 2,000%. So if you plan on drinking/eating anything Turmeric for the health benefits, add a dash of pepper! Other benefits proven by studies are that it can reduce risk of brain disease, as it boosts brain function, and can increase your levels of Serotonin & Dopamine. This also helps people that suffer from depression. Another benefit, is that Curcumin being an anti inflammatory substance, can reduce/prevent aging in some ways. Inflammation being one of the causes of aging. There are so many benefits. I definitely did not list them all. I could go on all day. But let’s get to that recipe!
